(510) Family Faves: Annie from the Gourmet Ghetto

Once upon a time, Whitney and I were getting fancy makeovers at Aveda on Fourth Street and discovered Annie with her 10-month old, Bessie, getting their hair done (ok, just the mama) and thought, “that’s awesome!” Annie gracefully allowed us to share this picture of them as well as her favorite spots in the East Bay.

Favorite restaurant to eat as a family?
Any place with good bread. My girl (Bessie) loves fresh bread.

Best way to spend an afternoon in the East Bay?
We like walking around the neighborhood (well, me walking, Bessie in the stroller). We can get many of our errands done in one place: post office, dry cleaning, grocery store, etc. Once she starts walking, Totland will become a favorite spot, I’m sure.

Favorite rainy day hideout?
YMCA or our home

Favorite East Bay outing with kids?
Oakland Zoo is a lot of fun. Not so big as to be overwhelming, but enough to see to make it worthwhile.

By what name do you refer to your neighborhood? What is your neighborhood best known for?
North Berkeley. Known for the food, Gourmet Ghetto. And now that they have the pop-up food festival happening, it is even yummier to live here!

Cactus or Picante?
Neither! I prefer Cancun (in downtown Berkeley). Bessie loves their tortilla chips and guacamole!

Favorite date night destination?
We like to go out to eat at nice restaurants. My new favorite is Quince. Best meal I’ve had in a long time!
