6 East Bay celebrations for the 4th of July

This will be the first year my kids see fireworks. I have not yet decided where, and would love to hear your recommendations. For daytime activities, we’ll be choosing from one of these East Bay destinations for July 4th fun.

  • El Cerrito/worldOne festival – The City of El Cerrito’s Fourth of July Celebration and worldOneFestival will be held on Monday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cerrito Vista Park on Moeser Lane in El Cerrito, CA. It includes rides, face-painting, bounce houses and food booths. Music on the main stage will continue until 7 p.m. Admission is free.

  • Albany’s 4th of July celebration – In the past we have loved to have a pony ride at Memorial Park’s festivities on the 4th of July. This year, expect a reptile show from the Vivarium folks, a huge new obstacle course for kids, a new Velcro wall and music. Dads, there’s a mustache contest, so start growing yours now! The activities at Memorial Park begin at noon.

  • Berkeley Marina 4th of July – this is a complete festival from noon to 10 pm. There are rides, bands, a stage from The Buddy Club, dragon boat rowing, and more. Fireworks are at 9.35 pm. Adventure Playground will be open especially for this day.

  • Alameda 4th of July Parade – if you love a parade, this is the place to be as the Alameda Parade is the second largest and longest Independence Day parade in the nation. With over 170 floats and 2,500 participants who travel a three mile route. Sign up now and you can be a part of it. See the route.

  • Piedmont Parade and Park celebration – A smaller parade takes place in Piedmont. starting at 11.00 am at Park Way on Highland Ave and ending at the Exedra Plaza in Piedmont Park.

  • Jack London Square’s July 4th Festival of Family Fun – From 11 am to 4 pm, kidcentric activities near the waterfront include a petting zoo, performers from Kinetic Arts: stiltwalkers, jugglers, and face-painters. There will be clowns and a balloon artist, hula hoop dancing, and magic.
