When she was in preschool, my daughter and I went to a brilliant kite-flying birthday party. The location and weather were perfect and I thought I’d share the inspiration with everyone via a few pictures and links.
The setting: Cesar Chavez Park in the Berkeley Marina. The no-frills picnic benches are available first come, first serve. 5-minute walk to outhouse bathrooms. Spectacular views of San Francisco.
The activity:Â Making our own kite that actually flew was thrilling. There is a reason the Berkeley Kite Festival is hosted here; the wind is relentless.
The hosts of this party bought supplies from Amazon. Older children could have done more of their own kite construction, but due to the age of this party (four) the host parents helped out a bit with pre-making the kites. On the day of the party, they passed the blank kites out to the children whose main task was to decorate their kites before an adult attached the strings for them.
This party finished with a pinata and a kite-shaped cake. Super fun!

We did a kite flying party for my daughter when she turned 4, and I agree it was a great idea! Ours was at Union Point Park in Oakland, which provides a bit more shelter than the Marina if you are worried about it being TOO windy (yet still windy enough to fly a kite). Love the kite-making idea! We just bought cheap kites for everyone to give as the party favors. Looks like you all had a blast!
