No, I’m not the girl that gets around at summer camp. Rather, I signed my kindergarten graduate up for six different day camps to bridge the summer vacation and I’m feeling a little promiscuous. I told Whitney that there was no lesson for me to learn because I already know the lesson: Keep it simple, Stupid. I can’t believe I did it, and today was just the first day.
Too much of a good thing? My son likes knowing the ropes, the facilities, the kids, the counselors, and the RULES; he’s social but he loathes being the new kid. I already knew this going in. But then I did the research for our Camp Guides this year, and I got sucked in by so many cool options. I signed up for one great choice after another, creating a summer experience that’s big on outdoor play and Maker Faire-style creation. So, I am hoping for the best; maybe I’ll keep it simple next year.
In no particular order, we are sending our six year old to: Camp Galileo, Cal Explorer Camp, Sticky Art Lab Camp, Sarah’s Science, and Berkeley Day Camp.
At least its bloggable. Without trying to freak him out by grilling him, I’ll inquire about the best and worst aspects of each place so we can make a more informed decision for next year. I’ll also weigh in those factors like convenient hours, location, price, and food to come up with the parent share of the vote.
Where will your child in the East Bay be spending summer vacation? How did you make your decisions?
