Love or shove: kids eat “free” at Ikea?

We received a tip about a “FREE” eating program at the Swedish SuperStore going on now. What do you guys think?

There is an Eat for FREE event at IKEA Emeryville from November 10 – 12 and again November 24 – 26th and this is how it works:

1. Dine in the IKEA Restaurant (with many baby- and kid-friendly options)
2. Get a coupon from the restaurant Cashier
3. Shop in the store
4. Deduct the price of your Restaurant total from any home furnishing purchase over $100

Fine print: Restaurant food purchase must be consumed on the premises. Limit one restaurant receipt per store discount. Home furnishings purchase must be made the same day as the restaurant purchase.

Sounds like a ploy to get you to spend $100. I remember last year they did a kids eat free promotion, but there was no coupon, or furniture purchase required. Plus the kids meals only cost like $2 or something like that, so how much would you really be saving!

Kids eat free just about every other week at Ikea.
But if this is like previous promos where the entire family’s bill is deducted and you need furniture anyway, why not? In fact when I send my husband and in-laws off to get much needed toy storage on the second weekend listed, I’ll let them know to eat there if they are going to get lunch out anyway. Then it’s a win-win!
