Music camps at Freight & Salvage

Families who love music will find several summer programs of interest at Freight & Salvage in downtown Berkeley. 

  1. fiddlekids for 7-14 year olds. A unique, fun-filled summer day camp in Berkeley for children, devoted to traditional fiddle music. fiddlekids explores bluegrass, Appalachian, Celtic, jazz, klezmer, and other traditional styles through tunes, songs, dance, and art. fiddlekids welcomes violin students ages 7 to 14 with at least one year’s playing experience. Children learn composition, harmony, and improvisation in a fun and practical manner that emphasizes ear training. In addition, fiddlekids offers art and dance classes in small, age-based groups that provide enrichment and thematic connections with the music.
  2. Sing Out Loud Theatre Camp for 5-7 year olds. July 18 – 29, 2011, with a final performance on Saturday, July 30. The stage doors open wide in this two-week camp where kids explore the world of theater by writing, designing, and starring in an original production based on traditional American folk songs. This session, for ages 5-7, is based on animal songs. Camp runs two weeks, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-noon. The fee for the two-week camp is $380.
  3. Sing Out Loud Theatre Camp for 8-10 year olds. Same dates as above, but with sessions in the afternoon. The program for ages 8-10 is based on songs about traveling. Camp runs two weeks, Monday-Friday from 1:00-4:00 pm. The fee for the two-week camp is $400.
