- The Lego Brick Show is coming to a close on Sunday and is well worth the visit – you may find yourself deeply engrossed in a Lego figurine scavenger hunt!
- Friday night, you can catch Ice Age for an outdoor summer movie at Redwood Heights.
- Celebrate, view and even ride steam engines at the Historic Rail Fair at Ardenwood – the event is going on through Monday.
- Look into the free kids video game programming class for your older children who have taken an interest in gaming and digital arts. (Or head to the CelestiCon Family Game Convention!)
- The county fair may be over, but there will be plenty to do at the fairgrounds this weekend: celebrate Scottish heritage with pipe band performances, athletic events, dancing and kid-friendly activities.
- Celebrate Oakland Pride with bubbles, a petting zoo, and jumping tent fun! (All free, but they want you to register.)
- UC Berkeley Botanical Garden will be open all weekend and Labor Day (but closed on Tuesday) – take in the serenity or even take a basket-making class.
- Whether school started this week or starts next, it’s never too late to mark off another free, fun activity off your summer list!
- Catch science shows and hands-on exhibits over at Chabot Space & Science Center, open for the weekend and Labor Day.
- Tap into your family’s artistic side with a visit to Brushstrokes or Sticky Art Lab!

It’s also Gold Rush Days up in Sacramento. We’re taking Amtrak up in the morning, playing around a bit in old town Sacramento, and then taking the train back in the late afternoon.
