The folks behind Bean Sprouts Cafe treated us to lunch at Chabot Science Center in order to introduce us to their newest location.
The concession stand at Chabot Science Center has been transformed into a kid-friendly cafe with adorable, healthy snacks thanks to Bean Sprouts, a chain whose first Bay Area location is Sausalito's Discovery Museum.
The menu includes Sunflower Butter and Jelly sandwiches shaped like piano keys; hummus guacamole served as an alligator's face; a spider sandwich. Pizza is served on a gluten-free waffle-texture crust.
Adult food, also known simply as food, made from organic, local ingredients is also available. The cafe does not place any nag-inducing junk food near the register, and the counter is low enough that a child can be seen and heard when ordering.
Beyond the cafe's fun, modern style, and clever presentation of food, the presence of Bean Sprouts at Chabot allows them to provide cooking classes for kids. Schedule is TBD.
