A Very Victorian Christmas

Whether writing letters to Santa Claus, reading A Christmas Carol or decorating our trees, there are several holiday traditions that, for many of us, are important to celebrating the winter holidays. You might be surprised to learn that some of these traditions were popularized in the 19th century.

The Camron-Stanford House is pleased to present A Very Victorian Christmas. We invite you to explore how different people in the United States celebrated the winter season– from elaborate dinners on silver plates in the homes of the wealthy to charity-sponsored toy drives and luncheons in San Francisco orphanages. Learn how the 19th century shaped the holiday traditions we hold most dear.
