First Church Berkeley is holding the annual Blessing of the Animals on October 3rd at 4 pm on the front lawn. This entirely outdoor service is a multi-species affair, a service celebrating all the non-human creatures in our lives. First Church Berkeley is a progressive Christian church but this is a service for people of all faiths and no faith. It will last about 45 minutes and be followed by ice cream bars and popsicles! All ages are absolutely welcome.
Recognizing that humans are creatures among other creatures, ordinary and extraordinary, messy and magnificent. Guests are invited to bring a pet (if your pet is amenable to being at an outdoor service around other animals and humans), a photo of your pet (if your pet is not so comfortable in that setting), a photo or symbol of a pet who has died, a picture of any animal that matters to you, a stuffed animal, or just your own animal self to be blessed.
You can find the species-filled lawn at 2350 Dana Street in Berkeley.
For current COVID protocols, see http://firstchurchberkeley.org/covid. The event will be masked and fully outdoors, since not all participants are old enough to be vaccinated!
