A family-friendly concert and cooking class for all to enjoy! Join for an afternoon of hands-on fun:
- 1-2 PM: Drop-in cooking class with award-winning food writer and cookbook author Leah Koenig
- 2-3:30 PM: Foot-stomping fun with Sandcatchers, featuring Yoshie Fruchter (Asylum Arts artist-in-resident and songleader at Camp JCC East Bay)
Show-stopping main dishes like brisket typically get all the glory at the Jewish table, but Middle Eastern Jewish cuisine is filled with appetizers, dips, salads, and delicious nibbles traditionally served alongside challah on Shabbat and holidays. This class will explore one staple in the glorious mezze table of Sephardic cuisine, by preparing (and later feasting on) spinach bourekas and other noshes. Participants should be at least 4-5 years old, need to be accompanied by a grown-up, and should bring their appetite.
But the fun’s not over yet…stick around for the music and movement!
Sandcatchers, featuring the Middle Eastern oud and the American lap steel guitar, performs upbeat and fun material from their debut record, “What We Found Along the Way,” as well as brand-new music to get the party rolling. NYC-based bandleader and educator Yoshie Fruchter will have you singing and clapping along. Meet the band members and their instruments and learn how each plays a role in Sandcatchers’ unique sound—and if the music moves you, grab a drum or tambourine and play along!
