Laurel Lunar New Year Celebration

Celebrate the Year of the Rat and join Laurel District businesses to welcome “a fruitful and prosperous year”. 2020 will be a year of progression and vitality celebrating the Rat who attracts success and good luck in all the spheres of life.

The annual Laurel Lunar New Year Celebration highlights cultural expression and serves as a vital bridge between community and tradition in the Laurel District.

The day kicks off with Oakland Councilmember Sheng Thao, District 4 hosting the annual Local Heroes ceremony at Laurel Elementary School (3750 Brown Ave.) from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm. During the ceremony, FREE BBQ will be provided by Oakland Firefighters Local 55.

Following the Local Heroes ceremony, the annual Lunar New Year Lion Dance Parade will take place in the Laurel Business District from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm. A traditional Chinese Lion Dance procession Lead by Sifu “Master” Lacy from the Buk Sing Kung Fu Academy of Fremont, will travel down MacArthur Boulevard blessing local Laurel District businesses along the way.
