Come celebrate Library Afro Revolution Day at Berkeley Public Library.
Join in a day of festivities that center around love for all hair types and styles while celebrating and learning about Black hair and culture. This event is uplifting the kinky, curly coils, but however you wear your hair; short, long, covered or none at all, everyone can join in a celebration of self-love and community.
Library Afro Revolution Day will include;
Book Giveaways
- Free children’s books highlighting Black hair courtesy of Berkeley Public Library in collaboration with Marcus Book Store
Back-to-School Haircuts for children with barber Jenji
- A limited amount of free haircuts for kids on a first come, first serve basis.
Vogue lessons and dance performance from Jocquese
- Learn vogue dance moves from a professional dancer.
Kickin’ It Cardboard Challenge with Chanel London, founder of Hella Artsy
- Make and decorate sneakers out of cardboard boxes.
End the day by showing off your moves in a hair parade.
This event will be held outside the Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch on Russell Street in between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Otis Street. The street will be blocked off for this celebration so alternative transportation is encouraged.
