Join in a celebration of the Lunar New Year to welcome the Year of the Rat with family lore and folktales from China.
11 a.m. & 2 p.m. & 4 p.m. Puppet Show. Perez and Mondinga. Its fiesta time in Mexico! Mondinga, the cockroach, wants to marry and share her hacienda with someone special. Rooster, Pig and evil Cat all want to marry her, yet none is right. Finally she meets Perez, the gentle mouse, and marries him. This is the silly story of their meeting, marriage and mishaps, just in time for Cinco De Mayo! Ole’! Scenery & Puppets by Lewis Mahlmann.
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Marilynn O'Hare Arts & Crafts Center is open with activities geared toward children and their families.
1 p.m. Animal of the Day! Come up close and learn about one of our animal friends. Which one of Fairyland's feathered, furry or wooly creatures will it be today? Find out at the Humpty Dumpty wall.
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Storyteller Clara Yen – As a child, she listened to the stories of her parents as they spoke about their childhoods in China. Clara re-creates those memories for herself, for her parents, and for her listeners by delicately weaving family lore with folk tales, and English with Mandarin.
