Join for Second Sundays for Families, a program at the museum featuring art making and storytelling around a different theme each month. Enter the Koret Education Center on Floor 2 to explore new artists, ideas, and art materials in an open-ended, drop-in environment. The entire museum is your inspiration! We believe in the joy of making, so come ready to relax, experiment, and enjoy yourself.
April 9, 2023: Tied up in knots
Have you ever tied a knot before? Or perhaps a bow? Knots are everywhere — in your clothes, on your shoes, in rugs, fabrics, and boats, and EVEN in artwork in this very museum! Explore the many ways to tie things up and make them beautiful. The museum will have lots of materials to experiment with, and staff will be demonstrating different techniques so you can really get creative.
Want to get inspired? Check out images of artwork by the following artists or come see them in person!
Judith Scott, Floor 2
Ruth Asawa, Floor 2
Sheila Hicks, Floor 2
Anna Sew Hoy, Floor 4
But that’s not all! See how many knots you can find — you might be surprised how many you see.
