NOTE: This date/event is in the past. Keep browsing.

Parents and caregivers! As part of Space Week at West Branch, Berkeley Public Library is hosting a fun and FREE two-day STEM program on Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8th from 3:30pm-4:45pm. Presented by Lawrence Hall of Science, this program is an engineering design challenge for kids ages 8-12 that will investigate ways to survive on Mars! Advanced registration is recommended as attendance is limited. If you can make it both days, great! But it’s also okay if you can only attend one day. Sign up now through the link:

MORE DETAILS:

Together with instructors from Lawrence Hall of Science, children will design and test systems for providing water, oxygen, warmth, and more on a Martian colony. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of Mars, our most habitable neighbor; learn how we can identify potentially habitable planets; and explore the engineering design process.

Day 1 will involve a discussion about what’s needed to survive on Mars, including oxygen, shelter, food, water and an activity to design and build a model greenhouse.

Day 2 will involve finishing the design challenge from the previous day and, if time allows, designing and building a model water filter.
