Tawonga Erev Rosh Hashanah Celebration

Join your Tawonga community for its annual Erev Rosh Hashanah Celebration! Participants will gather under the beautiful redwoods of Oakland’s Joaquin Miller Park for an uplifting, musical outdoor service. All are welcome! Please register in advance. Meet at Pinewood Picnic Area in Joaquin Miller Park (3600 Joaquin Miller Rd, Oakland, CA 94621).

Main Program

The program will include traditional prayers, songs, inspiring reflections and lots of Tawonga ruach (spirit)! Adults and kids of all ages are welcome to this family-friendly celebration.

Talented service founders Rabbi Deborah Newbrun and Isaac Zones will lead the program. (Deborah is a former Tawonga Camp Director and 2018 Covenant Award winner; Isaac is a musician, Tawonga song leader and 2020 Helen Diller Family Educator Award winner).

Torah scholar Sue Reinhold will offer inspiring words, and supporting the musical program will be musicians Maya Elise, Roger Sideman and Casey Cohen. Don’t forget to bring a shofar for our ceremonial community blowing of the shofar!

Kids Program

Children ages 5-12 can also join a separate kid program led by Tawonga staff with new year-themed activities.

What to Bring
