Date night in the East Bay: Dessert (Part Two)

datenightI have found myself searching for the perfect dessert place on many occasions. More than I care to mention. Sometimes it’s just dessert (for parents who are barely ready to leave their baby with a sitter), other times I’m trying to eek out the last few minutes of the PNO clock. Regardless, it’s nice to have a dessert place at the ready.

Here are five great places for dessert in Berkeley, Oakland, and Emeryville.

Rudy’s Cant Fail Cafe in Emeryville or Oakland (near the Fox) for cake, pie or a Guinness float. Open until 1am.

Caffe Trieste Enjoy the very best cappuccinos and mochas along with canolli, gelato, or cakes with live entertainment. Wine and tea also available. Open until 10pm most nights but 11pm on date night (Friday and Saturday).

Whole Foods Oakland (near Lake Merritt) is rather classy for a grocery store. It is open until 10pm every night of the week. The dessert counter and cafe are perfectly delicious and you can always grab something for tomorrow’s breakfast because you’re probably out of milk or something.

Scream Sorbet in Temescal has an addictive and mouth-watering array of fresh flavors. Open until 10pm most nights but 11pm on date night. Read a full review on Oakland Local.

Fonda in Albany (on Solano) has a tiny molten chocolate cake that rocks my world. I think they have other choices too, but I’d rather just get a second helping of this one. Fonda Solana closes at 12:30am.
