Free Meals During COVID-19 Distance Learning

We have updated this reference list of East Bay School Lunch Pickup Locations for your reference along with additional food resources at the bottom of the page.

Tips for School Meal Pickup for Parents

In order to be most safe and equitable, most of these programs adhere to the same basic rules. All of these programs offer to help any child under 18 in need of a meal through December 31st, 2020. They are no longer requiring that children be enrolled in the school district or provide a student ID# due to a federal rule change. As of September, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reversed course and announced that schools can return to their “grab and go” policies from the summer.

Things to remember:

  • No food may be consumed on site.
  • Children are not required to pick up the food in person or provide student ID#.
  • Locations operate only a few days of the week. Multiple meals can be acquired during each visit.
  • Please bring a grocery bag or cooler to bring food home for the week.
  • Anyone over 2 years of age must wear a mask.

    1. Shannon, That’s a big bummer, but I see that you are 100% correct: per the OUSD website: Starting August 10, the Nutrition Services Department will operate 22 pick-up locations throughout the city where “Grab and Go” meals will be available for any student registered and enrolled in TK to 12th grade at one of our District-run schools, or in our Early Childhood Education or Young Adult Programs. This is due to a new federal rule. In other words, we can no longer provide meals for children too young to be enrolled in school or students enrolled in charter or private schools. 🙁
