Tips for Summer Meal Pickup

In order to be safe and equitable, most of these programs adhere to the same basic rules. All of these cities’ programs offer to help any child under 18 in need of a meal residing in that city. There is no requirement for children to be enrolled in a certain school district or provide a student ID# due to a federal rule change. All meals are grab-and-go.

Things to remember:

• No food may be consumed on site.
• Children are not required to provide a student ID#.
• Locations operate at varying days and times throughout the week, so please check the distribution schedule for your city prior to showing up.
• Most locations are closed on holidays.
• Bring a grocery bag or cooler to bring food home if necessary.

Oakland Grab-and-Go Summer Meal Program

The city of Oakland is offering free grab-and-go meals for all youth ages 18 and under at many different sites. The Oakland sites are also open to adults 19 and older with disabilities who are enrolled in a school program. Additionally, Oakland is offering free summer meals to youth who are enrolled in eligible summer programs (food service is for enrolled participants only).

Starting May 31st, 2022, all youth in Oakland 18 years and younger, Oakland adults with disabilities in school programs, and Oakland youth in summer programs can receive free meals.

Oakland Free Breakfast & Lunch Distribution Schedule

The majority of the 19 sites listed below will be open Monday through Friday for grab-and-go lunch or grab-and-go breakfast and lunch. Children do not need to provide a student ID#.

The city of Berkeley is offering free grab-and-go breakfast, lunch, and snacks for all youth ages 18 and under at many sites throughout the city.

Starting May 31st, 2022, all youth in Emeryville 18 years and younger can receive free meals.

Family Food Needs Beyond School Lunch

The Berkeley Food Network

The Berkeley Food Network’s on-site pantry provides food to anyone in need. Staff and volunteers pack groceries into bags to take home. Be sure to have a means of carrying multiple grocery bags.

Hours & Days: 
Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Mondays and Wednesdays: 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Location: 1925 Ninth St. Berkeley (enter through the door facing the parking lot)

Berkeley Food Network also has a number of mobile pantries located at multiple distribution centers throughout the East Bay (listed below). Please note that the Berkeley High School mobile pantry is closed for the summer of 2022 but will reopen in the fall.

BTA Pantry
The mobile pantry at the Berkeley Technical Academy is open to serve the South Berkeley area.

Hours: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

AHS Pantry
The mobile pantry at Albany High School is open to serve the Albany area.
Location: 603 Key Route Boulevard Albany (in the Cafeteria)
Hours: 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
