Field trip: Cal Academy of Sciences

This guest post was written by Berkeley mom of two daughters, Alison King.

My dad gave us a membership to the Cal Academy of Sciences for Christmas, so we went over to the museum on Sunday morning to take advantage of their special Members Only hour before the museum opened to the public. This hour is reason alone to be a member, even if you live in the East Bay: 60 minutes of a blissfully empty aquarium, and no line to be seen at the Rainforest Dome.

We ate lunch at the museum cafe, where my 8-year-old decided that a sweet pork bun was the perfect side dish for a plate of BBQ ribs, and my far less adventurous 5-year-old stayed in her mac n’ cheese comfort zone.

On the drive home we took a sightseeing detour to wave at the Painted Ladies on Alamo Square.

(Members Only hours at the Academy of Sciences: Tuesdays 8:30am – 9:30am, Sundays 10am – 11am)
