Thanks to Chabot Space & Science Center for sharing this guide to how to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing this summer in this sponsored post.
July 20, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first humans landing on the Moon, that one giant leap for mankind everyone is always talking about.
During the 1960s and ’70s, NASA sent nine missions to the moon. Six of them landed astronauts safely on the surface. This is the only time humans have visited another world.
To celebrate this feat in space exploration, Chabot is bringing the Bay Area closer to the Moon through exciting lunar activities all summer long. Little astronauts will want to see this stuff!
Moon Month includes
- a new exhibition in partnership with NASA’s Ames Research Center
- a lunar-themed First Friday ($5 admission and a new planetarium show!)
- a day of Apollo 11 celebrations
- and so much more. Read on for more details.
Summer Lunar Events at Chabot Space & Science Center
Luminous Moon kicks off a summer of lunar activities with more than 50 stunning high-resolution images, lunar artifacts and interactive opportunities for all ages. This is the moon as you’ve never seen it.
Kids and adults will love hands-on activities, including building a lunar habitat using a variety of fun structural materials, touching the Moon through a three-dimensional landscape and launching meteorites to create craters. Explore the Moon from many perspectives, featuring a hand-curated collection of spectacular high-resolution images.
July is Moon Month at Chabot! Lunar First Friday offers hands-on Moon activities, a showing of the newest Planetarium show, Lunaverse, and a sneak peek of PBS documentary, Chasing the Moon. Adults can take a hike under the full Moon and look through the telescope at Hike and Sip. All Chabot visitors can check out the Center’s two Moon rocks from Apollo 15 and 16 missions.
On July 20, the Center will remember the day of the Apollo 11 landing with a full day of exciting Moon-related activities followed by an adults-only after party that features live music, a simulated mission to the Moon and more. Raise a glass to toast to this incredible achievement with Moon-themed cocktails.
