Recommended for ages 7 or 8+, the New Parkway in Oakland is offering a fun twist on movie night with surprise showings of favorite movies they promise are mostly (but not all) kid-friendly. Think of it like when your grandparents would go to the video store and bring back something great but not always appropriate for your kid sister!
While the New Parkway will remain closed as a movie theater until September, they’ll be hosting weekly outdoor movie nights every Saturday from June through August.

Buy a $10 ticket in advance to reserve your space on the grounds for up to six people in your bubble. I already purchased one for the next showing because why the heck not!? Reserve your spot >>

What else? Food and drinks are permitted. No pets allowed. And the movies are being kept a surprise but strong hints will be dropped via social media.
Support The New Parkway Theater
The New Parkway is not planning to reopen as an indoor, community-centric movie house for several months but they are keeping real busy in the interim and there are many cool ways to show the love.
- As part of a kickstarter project, they’ll be making lots of cosmetic improvements (including that rad mural above). There are donation levels with cool rewards still available.
- They’re continuing to sell food crates filled with prepared foods and pantry staples as a local meal delivery service. I just ordered one.
- You can buy a cool tee to show your Oakland pride.
