Spotlight on Prospect Sierra’s Summer Program (2022)

Thank you to our sponsor, Prospect Sierra, an independent TK-8 school on two spacious campuses in El Cerrito. They also host an incredible summer day program for rising kindergartners through 8th graders.

Though a chill is still in the air, summer planning is upon us.  Having launched the inaugural Prospect Sierra Summer Program last year with much success (ie, happy kids, happy families!), they’re thrilled to announce an expansion for Summer 2022.

Enrollment begins in late January. Learn more now >

Experience summer the Prospect Sierra way!

Prospect Sierra summer programs utilize both of their El Cerrito campuses which are home to big, open, grassy spaces and innovative classrooms that inspire exploration, movement, and summer fun. Summer program students at PS enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities while exploring core subjects like literature, mathematics, writing, science, engineering, history, music, and language. They also dive into outdoor play, movement, exploration, physical education, and mindfulness.

Last year’s programs featured hands-on projects such as stop-motion movie making and arcade games made with recycled school supplies, outdoor adventures in neighboring Canyon Trail Park, math inspired by a yarn-made laser field and obstacle course, make-believe cities built with large foam blocks, age-old classics such as kickball, and more!

All age-appropriate activities are dreamed up by trusted summer teachers and vetted by Prospect Sierra leadership. They use approaches such as project-based learning (PBL) to motivate students and make learning highly enjoyable.

Children in the summer program build on existing skills and acquire new knowledge daily, all while experiencing the hallmarks of a Prospect Sierra education including socio-emotional literacy, inclusion, in-depth learning, and care for others.
