I am so grateful to the Berkeley public school system, which feeds second breakfast to two of my children each day, that a morning snack — or universal breakfast — comes standard to everyone. I know how ornery I get without proper nutrition, and I’m not a growing child. We are very lucky.
If you are able to spare $1, you can fund 10 breakfasts for children through the Share Our Strength campaign. Remarkably, an $18 donation can help a child get breakfast every day of the school year (180 days)!
Two other ideas for you:
If you’re trying to model giving back to children this holiday season, helping hungry kids eat is a very concrete problem to solve. Share the short video with your kids. Children can help you add up the impact of your donation or use their own allowance to support others.
If you’re trying to find the perfect gift for the family member or friend with everything, consider a donation accompanied by the super pretty holiday card/hang tags. Donations to No Kid Hungry help Share Our Strength provide food, supplies, and technical assistance to organizations feeding kids via summer meal and breakfast programs. They also teach families how to prevent hunger at home.
