Who & What
Tim Oliver Swimming in the Oakland Hills offers drop-in swim lessons for children 3 months to 3 years in a lovely but crowded outdoor pool. During inclement weather, the pool is enclosed with a weatherproof dome to allow the lessons to continue.
Show up with your baby or young toddler on a Saturday morning and build your (mutual) confidence in the pool at your own pace. Oliver and his trained teachers will answer your questions and lead you in methods to encourage swimming and safety at a young age. Instructors and squirty toys are scattered throughout the crowded pool.
If you're expecting a teacher to lead you and some other parents and babies in a round circle of motor boat motor boat and Humpty Dumpty, you've come to the wrong place. Instead, I received practical advice about encouraging me to dunk my son or sprinkle water on his head to get him familiar with the water. Armed with these pointers, I can practice at any public pool and dunk my kid or splash him til he cries before returning for more tips.
Tim Oliver also has a devoted following for his older children's coaching and lessons when your toddler graduates from the parent/child class.
12000 Campus Dr, Oakland is on the property of East Hills Community Church. The pool is to the right just as you enter the parking lot.
Saturday mornings from 10am to 11am but double-check the schedule before you show up with a swim-suited baby!
$12 per child, parents are free
