This is probably a fairly biased review as my 11-year daughter is in the cast of The Wizard of Oz at Berkeley Playhouse, but since not every show at Berkeley Playhouse is kid-friendly, I want to share this opportunity to see local theater with your kids.
Playing every Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, Sunday afternoon, and Sunday night from now until December 23, The Wizard of Oz is a good choice for a family live theater experience. The songs are iconic and the show includes a high energy dance number that’s not in the movie.
Due to the scariness of the Wicked Witch and the tornado, I recommend it for kids over age 6 who are able to sit and watch for a couple of hours. The runtime is 2 hours and 20 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.
This classic story of friendship will allow you to introduce your child to all the figures of speech and cultural references born out of the Wizard of Oz. We’re not in Kansas anymore!
