Why Juneteenth Matters:
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This monumental moment in history is a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality and justice. Richmond has proudly commemorated this heritage for over 40 years, creating a celebration that unites our residents and honors our diverse history.
The Richmond Juneteenth is a collaborative effort between the City of Richmond and local community-based organizations that have come together to honor this important day.
Mark your calendars and join them for an unforgettable day of pride, unity, and joy at Nicholl Park.
