Join Storyland Collective and Marcus Books for a magical morning of storytelling, imagination, and creative writing.
Storyland Collective and Marcus Books are partnering with Oakland author and teaching artist Duane Horton for a fable-filled storytime and writing workshop.
Duane Horton is a Black queer fantasy writer, educator, and workshop facilitator whose work explores identity, belonging, and the power of imagination. He is the author of No Hero Alone and has spent many years working with young people across Oakland as a creative writing teaching artist. Duane believes that everyone deserves to see themselves at the center of a story—and that imagination can help us build new worlds and possibilities.
During this interactive family workshop, participants will work together to create an original fable inspired by their own ideas, experiences, and dreams. Through guided storytelling activities, families will invent characters, build a world, and craft a tale that reflects their unique voices.
By the end of the session, each participant will leave with their very own handmade book and a story of their own creation.
Perfect for children, caregivers, aspiring writers, and imaginative minds of all ages. No prior writing experience necessary.
