Boo at the Zoo: A Special Event at the Oakland Zoo

The Oakland Zoo is all set up for its annual Boo at the Zoo event. It is an animal scavenger hunt that invites families to traipse around the Zoo in their costumes, locating trick-or-treating animals. It’s super fun and cute for kids of all ages, so grab your costumes and get your tickets now!

What is Boo At The Zoo?

Instead of a traditional trick-or-treating event, during which children would collect candy from around the Zoo, for COVID reasons, each child will be receiving a pre-stuffed goody bag (while supplies last) after leaving the zoo (to prevent trash from collecting around the zoo). There are also fun decorations all around the zoo, including the upcoming Glowfari installations, which are fun to look at even during the day.

You’ll want to grab a program as you enter the Zoo and follow the clues on the self-guided scavenger hunt to find all the trick-or-treating animals hiding throughout the Zoo. There’s also a costume contest you can take part in to win 4 tickets to the new holiday nighttime lantern festival this year, GLOWFARI. More info here>

When is the Boo At The Zoo?

The event runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October during regular Zoo hours.

Tickets must be reserved in advance through the online ticketing system. Attendance is limited, so please be aware that you may not get your first choice of date and time. Only guests with online ticket reservations will receive the official scavenger hunt and a goody bag. Members that arrive after 2 pm without a reservation are welcome to unofficially participate in the scavenger hunt, but will not receive a goody bag because of limited supplies.
