Included in your visit to Fairyland is a new featured chef experience on some very special Saturdays. Not only will children delight in the usual rides, animals, and make-believe at the magical storybook park, but they will also learn important kitchen lessons while having a blast with a well-known Oakland chef.
Thank you to Children’s Fairyland for creating this excellent family event and for sponsoring {510} Families.
Aesop’s Playhouse at Fairyland will become Oakland’s Magic Kitchen on Saturday, November 11. Oakland chef, Mica Talmor, will visit Children’s Fairyland and demonstrate a recipe that kids and their adults can do together (some can be modified to be cooked independently!). She’ll be joined by Quercus, Fairyland’s furry mascot to spark children’s eagerness to help out in the kitchen while sharing food facts and culinary basics.

Fairyland’s Guest Chef is Mica Talmor of Pomella on Nov. 11
On Saturday, November 11, Quercus, Fairyland’s newest character, will welcome special Guest Chef, Mica Talmor, the owner and creative force behind Oakland’s Pomella. Chef Mica and Quercus will create her special recipe for an apple and veggie salad plus fresh pita bread–the same pita bread served at Pomella–with a lively, child-centered cooking demonstration.

When the demonstration is done, all guests will have the chance to taste and take home the recipe!

Fairyland’s Guest Chefs are Oakland’s Culinary Pioneers
Fairyland is partnering with Visit Oakland for three Saturdays this year to bring the culinary delights of Oakland to its diverse children and families. All three Magic Kitchen events will have a different Guest Chef and take place at 11:30 am at Fairyland’s big-top amphitheater, Aesop’s Playhouse, on the following dates:
- Saturday, Sep. 16, 2023: Tamearra Dyson, Chef/Owner at Souley Vegan
- Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023: Imani Greer, Chef/Owner at Roasted and Raw
- Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023: Mica Talmor, Chef/Owner at Pomella

1-3 pm: Community Kitchens is bringing their Mobile Oasis to the park. It’s a new food-justice tool getting food and water to those in our community who need it. Inspired by ice cream trucks, the painted school bus plays music by local musicians to let folks know when Community Kitchens’ high-quality meals are available for anyone who needs them! They’re designing a new snack pack for kids and your kids will get to taste the options and vote for their favorites!
1-3 pm: Stop by Roots Community Health Center for an enriching activity and to learn more about their various programs, including the Roots Community Market which provides a variety of free nutritious foods and hygiene products to community members.
