In grades nine and ten, EBIHS students receive an outstanding college-preparatory curriculum including essay writing, rigorous math and science instruction, and an array of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Grades eleven and twelve are devoted to the IB Diploma Programme, often called the “gold standard” in high school education. The IB program, developed in Switzerland, opens the door to university admissions at top US universities and worldwide.

Multiple Language Tracks at EBIHS

Although EBIHS shares a campus with the popular East Bay German International School (EBGIS), no prior knowledge of a foreign language is required for admission. EBIHS offers multiple language tracks with beginner to native speaker level language and literature courses in French, German, and Spanish, and introductory Mandarin. All other classroom instruction takes place in English.

Students wishing to undertake high-level coursework in a second language are eligible to receive the Bilingual IB Diploma at graduation. This is a distinction awarded to just a quarter of IB graduates worldwide, and it further distinguishes EBIHS graduates from other applicants to top universities. EBIHS is the only high school in the East Bay offering the Bilingual IB Diploma and multiple foreign language tracks.

EBIHS: A Holistic and Personalized Education

EBIHS is small by design, ensuring each student receives an individualized educational experience tailored to their unique abilities and interests. EBIHS offers a 6:1 student-teacher ratio, opportunities for independent study, faculty mentorship, and personalized guidance in navigating university admissions. EBIHS strives to nurture each student’s academic development and their artistic, athletic, and social-emotional growth.

Preparing for College Admissions at EBIHS

College planning, career internships, and university campus visits are built into the EBIHS program. The EBIHS curriculum exceeds the University of California and California State University “A-G” course requirements for admission. AP and IB coursework can also qualify students to receive college credit while still in high school. The range of AP courses and the full IB Diploma earned by EBIHS students position them to become highly competitive applicants to top universities.
