Free Comic Book Day is August 14, 2021

Free Comic Book Day is nearly always the first Saturday in May, well not this year. Introducing Free Comic Book Day on August 14, 2021! Designed to introduce new readers to comic books as an art and entertainment form and also to support local independent comic book shops, Free Comic Book Day is observed by a handful of East Bay locations, libraries, and websites (of course). My family loves comic books and they’re ready to celebrate this free day.

Thousands of comic book shops across North America and around the world will give out millions of comic books, free of charge (with more you can buy, of course!). The free books, designed especially for this promotion, will satisfy a variety of ages and reading levels, ranging from Archie, Star Wars, and Legends of Korra.

  1. Does anyone have a recommendation for which of these local stores is the most welcoming to kids? My kids and I visited one on this list over the weekend for shopping, and boy, the staff were gruff. (And we were buying not just browsing!) Additionally there were scantily clad-girls on the cover of mangas and comics at kid eye level, which I really hate. Every comics shop and games shop I’ve been in feels like it is geared to adult males; would love to support one that is more about families and girl- and kid-friendly.
