Things to do with little kids at Universal Studios Hollywood

There’s more to Universal Studios Hollywood than just the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, although many people do visit for that experience. While Harry Potter is a big draw for wizards and muggles alike, other experiences, rides and attractions can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood to entertain the little kids.

Things to do with kids at Universal Studios Hollywood: Character Meet-N-Greets

Did you know there are a number of characters to meet at Universal Studios Hollywood? And it’s so fun for kids to meet their heroes, get autographs and photos with them in the park. Seeing your kids’ eyes light up is an experience that can’t be beat. At Universal Studios, you can meet up with characters such as Curious George, Hello Kitty, Transformers, Dora the Explorer and more. In order to track down these characters, ask a park employee to point you in the right direction or check the Universal Studios app.

What to do with kids at Universal Studios Hollywood: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Fans of the Harry Potter franchise have ample opportunity to dive into all things wizard-related at Universal Studios Hollywood! Kids will love the Hogwarts Castle walk-thru, or a visit to Ollivanders to let a wand choose them or participate in a wand ceremony. Young Potterheads can ride Flight of the Hippogriff as long as they’re at least 39 inches tall. The roller coaster itself isn’t the only fun part; while queuing guests will find themselves walking the grounds around Hagrid’s hut, hearing special instructions from Hagrid himself regarding the care of magical creatures.

Some other fun things to do with kids at Universal Studios Hollywood is send an owl from the Wizarding World’s owlery, or catch a performance from the famous Frog Choir. There is also shopping at Honeydukes and in the summer you can find limited-time shows such as Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle and The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle. Seeing the light shows accompanied by music as scenes from Harry Potter are projected on the castle is an experience to remember!

Animal Actors Show is a 20 minute production that brings scenes from The Secret Life of Pets to life before your eyes. Skilled trainers will help furry actors perform at their very best.

Super Silly Funland is a collection of water features, games and even a Minion-inspired ride. This area of Universal Studios is a blast for kids! Super Silly Funland is modeled after the carnival in Despicable Me, and will let guests young and old feel like part of the movies.

DreamWorks Theater Featuring Kung Fu Panda is sure to dazzle the senses with its 360 surround sound and interactive visuals. Follow along with Master Po as he undertakes a journey to fulfill the Emperor’s Quest. This 4-D show is fun for all ages.

Coming soon to Universal Studios Hollywood is Jurassic World, which will feature a dinosaur playland for kids in addition to Jurassic World: The Ride.

If your younger kids are feeling brave, they may really enjoy the Studio Lower Lot Tour. Board a bus with lots of people to tour the backlots, props, and scenery from many movies they will not have seen before. If they’re comfortable with cartoonish violence and can handle a shark from Jaws and a chase from Fast & Furious – Supercharged!, it is memorable. My children were technically too young but had a blast.

Rides for younger kids at Universal Studios Hollywood

There are many fun activities for tweens and teens at Universal Studios Hollywood. Brave big kids will happily ride the super intense Transformers ride and Revenge of the Mummy (even if they’ve never seen the movies), while little ones like mine would just freak out.

Silly Swirly Fun Ride is located in Super Silly Fun Land and is open to riders 48 inches and taller. Minion Mayhem is a great choice for even shorter guests, allowing riders 40 inches and taller to join the Minions on their next mission.
