Flight prices are creeping higher and long road trips in the car aren’t always fun for my family. The solution? An under-an-hour drive to a fun hotel with a pool. The Meritage Resort & Spa in Napa fits the bill in those respects, but even better, they also have oodles of holiday extras that delighted our family. From ice-skating to s’mores, hot chocolate and Santa, the Meritage has everything you need to truly wow your kids.
Holiday Fun at the Meritage Resort & Spa
Big holiday trips aren’t always in the cards these days, so finding a place that’ll excite my family and feel like we’re far away is something I’m always keeping an eye out for. The Meritage Resort & Spa wasn’t necessarily on my radar, but upon looking at all the fun extras and close proximity to Berkeley, it became a no-brainer.
My kids were able to check so many items off their holiday bucket list! Ice-skating, s’mores, Santa, Christmas tree lighting, “snow”, hot chocolate and more. My husband and I appreciated the ease of facilitating all these holiday activities in one place, all while sipping on some lovely wine.
Family and Fur Baby Friendly
We noticed so many families with small children at the Meritage, which always helps us feel at ease. Pets are also welcome; yet another perk that attracted us to the resort. Adjoining rooms are another family friendly option, as is the option for a fully equipped kitchen. We loved having two rooms, where the kids could watch movies and go to bed early and my husband and I could enjoy some wine and catch up on The Office (we’re a little behind).
There are two pools – one for families and the other for adults. Love this! It’s always a drag when you have to constantly tell your kids to stop screeching with delight because the cool twenty-somethings are giving you nasty side eye. Canon ball away kiddos!
There’s also a bowling alley on-site (we’re not a bowling family, but we heard it’s cool), as well as Train Town not too far away (Train Town is a must-visit if you have little kids!).

The Bottom Line
We experienced a boatload of holiday magic all in one overnight stay at the Meritage. What’s more, we could drive there in under an hour and we could bring our dog. Ultimately, my kids had a blast and it didn’t feel hectic or difficult to accomplish. The rooms were spacious, comfy, and clean, and the resort felt very family-friendly. With the deals and packages offered, the Meritage Resort & Spa is certainly a great local-ish staycation worth checking out.
