It feels like every month there are a few “school’s out” days that take us by surprise. For working parents, these days can be rough. If you can’t schedule a mini-break, here are a few resources you might want to bookmark so that you can arrange childcare now for school holidays.

Childcare for Fall holidays, Presidents Day, and other no-school days

Abundant Beginnings, Oakland takes place in local parks where kids can enjoy the break from school to be outdoors all day, from 9 to 3:30. They organize around common school closure days. With enough notice, they’ll create a pop-up camp custom to the days you need.

Bladium (Alameda) invites kids 5-14 to spend the day playing sports and games in their enormous facility when school is out. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm with extended care available. Check if the holiday you need is covered >

Cub Camp at Cal’s Golden Bear Gymnastics, Berkeley has 9 am to 3 pm programs scheduled for kids 4-12 years old during fall breaks, January and February days off, and Spring Break.

JCC East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland) offers full coverage from 8 am to 6 pm on most professional development days for kids ages 5 to 10 1/2. Kids go on field trips such as ice skating and have supervised play at the JCC. More info >
