With classes for age 6 and up, Traverse Fitness is the coolest new thing in the East Bay for families who like parkour and ninja warrior athletics, ideal for kids who prefer individual challenges to team sports. At this warehouse-style facility in Richmond, kids (and adults) can run, jump, hang, and put their strength and agility to the test.
A massive American Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course is at the heart of the space. Investors in the gym include actual competitors from the television show American Ninja Warrior.
Kids can earn wristbands as they achieve and demonstrate new levels of skill. There is a kid-size obstacle course as well, enabling students to practice skills at stations during classes, open gym, and birthday parties.
Kids Ninja Warrior Classes at Traverse Fitness
Classes for kids ages 6-13 are minimal right now, with one afterschool timeslot and one Saturday class. See the schedule here >

Open Gym at Traverse Fitness
Open Gym enables students to work on skills independently. Tues (6-9pm), Thur (5-7pm), Sat (11-1pm), and Sun (2-5pm). The schedule shows the Thurs and Sat sessions specific to Youth, however, the Tues and Sun are for all ages. Open Gym is $20.
Note: First-time students in the ninja fundamentals class may attend open gym following their class for free. Otherwise, the day pass is $20, a 10-pack is $212, and a monthly Open Gym membership is $90/month. Teens 14 and up should follow the adult schedule.
Open Gym costs $20, and if you plan to do a class and stay afterward for Open Gym, the price of the class drops to $20. $90/month allows unlimited Open Gym visits, which at the time of this writing is two days per week.
Birthday Parties at Traverse Fitness
My 12-year old thought this would be a great birthday party location, and the facility is available for a basic party priced at $250 for up to 10 kids that includes an hour of gym access. Learn more about Traverse Fitness parties here >
