Does your child need learning support or tutoring, or want academic enrichment outside of school? There are many local (and virtual!) places serving families in Oakland, Berkeley, and nearby that will help your child reach their potential through improving study skills, reading, math, executive function, and more. You might find educational workshops or weekly academic classes that suit your child’s needs. Some of the same vendors offer one-on-one tutoring; just ask!

Meyerson Education Services (MES) provides personalized academic coaching for students from kindergarten to college, with a special focus on neurodivergent learners, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. MES coaches use a science-backed strengths-based approach to build confidence, reduce school-related stress, and develop lasting skills across core subjects and executive functioning. With proven methods, expert guidance, and a deep commitment to collaboration, MES helps students thrive—and gives families the peace of mind that comes from having a trusted coach in their corner.

Age of student: Kindergarten through College (and beyond!)
Rates and Hours: MES charges between $190 – $230 per session, depending on the needs and expertise of the Academic Coach.
Geography: Meyerson Education works with students in person in Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, and San Francisco, and online nationwide.

The Berkeley Math Circle (BMC) is a weekly program for elementary, middle, and high school students. The weekly sessions are held in a combination of in-person and online sessions. Other geographies host "math circles" but their websites are tricky to find and use. Good luck!
