All ages can help nature while learning and enjoying lovely Cerrito Creek at the foot of Albany Hill. Activities will include:
- Remove invasives with UC Berkeley students — light but important spring work. Gloves and tools will be supplied. As part of El Cerrito’s Earth Day, volunteers can get free lunch at the El Cerrito Community Center.
- Family activities from light trash pickup to a do-it-yourself nature treasure hunt . If there is interest, the group will lead a 10 AM mini-nature walk for families.
- A 10 AM citizen-science walk observing and recording wild species. Install the free cell-phone apps INaturalist and Merlin — The group will show you how to use them to enrich your experience. If you already use these apps, you probably already know how volunteers are using them to build knowledge of the local environment as climate changes.
Meet any time after 9 AM in the meadow at the north foot of Albany Hill, across Cerrito Creek from El Cerrito’s Creekside Park. You can get there with an easy, level walk from Pierce, ford the creek from El Cerrito’s Creekside Park at the south end of Santa Clara in El Cerrito, or follow the trail from the north end of Madison in Albany. See map here.
