At Junior Center of Art & Science, located adjacent to Lake Merritt in Oakland, a new maker space for the youngest creators invites families to innovate together.
The warm and bright space looks out onto Lake Merritt and offers a low-tech, DIY workspace for kids and their grown-ups to work on projects together.
- A tinker table, where, inspired by a monthly Maker Challenge, visitors are invited to build something new
- A design-your-own invention station, equipped with studio tools and recycled materials
- A “LEGO lounge”, where little visitors can create whatever they imagine in a cozy and comfy space.
The activities and materials at the Junior Center’s Youth Maker space are appropriate for visitors ages 2 – 12 years old, with a focus on kids 4-8.
The Youth Makerspace is open during general admission hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 3pm.
Cost is $6 suggested donation.
Double check website to confirm hours and rates.
