At the Lawrence Hall of Science, there are quite a few nooks and crannies, so many in fact, that you might miss a couple of things on your visit. If you haven’t spent much time on the downstairs level, you may not know about the Animal Discovery Zone. Here you see reptiles and other small creatures in tanks, placed at a child-friendly level.

The Animal Discovery Zone
Open from 11 am to 4 pm, you can see reptiles and other small creatures in tanks, place down at a child-friendly level. The Discovery Zone is split into two rooms. The larger room in the main hallway and a second smaller room with bunnies and other cute critters around the corner as you head out to the Nature Lab.

Critter Connection
Stop by the Animal Discover Zone at 11:30 am or 2:30 pm for the daily hands-on (usually) Critter Connection. A staff member is on hand to engage kids with whichever creatures are the focus that day. Did you know that a tarantula feels soft, like a kitten? On past visits my kids have been able to touch a turtle and a snake.

This video gives you a view into the Animal Discovery Zone, found downstairs in Room 141 at the Lawrence Hall of Science, where you might meet snakes, mice, rabbits, or even a flying squirrel!
The Lawrence Hall of Science is located in the Berkeley Hills at One Centennial Drive above the main UC Berkeley campus.
