Featured Readers:

Indya McGuffin (she/her) Storyland Co-Founder and Project Director is dedicated to helping people better understand themselves and others using design and storytelling. With a career spanning children’s book design, d.school lecturer, studio ownership, and design operations at Netflix, she has long championed creative expression for community. Inspired by her passion for storytelling and her aspiration to become a children’s book author, Indya partnered with Bean Tupou (they/them) to launch Storyland—a space where young readers can see themselves in stories and find their own voices.

Bean Tupou Storyland Co-Founder, was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area—a musician in the Tongan/Pasifika diaspora, culture strategist, and community organizer who has managed operations at Chapter 510, Oakland’s youth writing and publishing organization. Rooted in decolonial values and their own journey as a mixed-race Tongan artist and organizer, Bean was inspired to develop Storyland as a healing, imaginative space where Oakland children and families could connect through storytelling, art, and community. Bean envisions Storyland as a sanctuary for cross-generational creativity, learning, and cultural resistance, drawing on ancestral storytelling practices and contemporary movements for justice.

Featured Host:

Kinfolx is located in the heart of downtown Oakland. It is so more than a coffee shop, it’s a vibrant gathering space rooted in community, culture, and connection. Founded with the vision of creating a safe and joyful environment for BIPOC and queer folks, Kinfolx has become a local beacon for creativity, conversation, and collective care. We’re thrilled to host Storyland in this beloved space where stories, families, and futures can flourish together.
