The Hayward Area Historical Society invites families to celebrate AAPI at the HAHS Museum of History and Culture.
On Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 am, families can attend a special story time focusing on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. Following story time, children can participate in age-appropriate crafts and activities from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. This month, learn about Hayward artist Hisako Hibi, who was interred at Tanforan and Topaz during World War II. Her art during that period focused on documenting the landscapes around her and creating art from found objects. Children will have the opportunity to create their own versions of Hibi’s art.
In addition to this drop-in program, local artist Ruey Syrop will be teaching a children’s watercolor class from 12:30-2:30 pm. This program is free to attend, but registration is encouraged for this activity as space is limited. Registration information can be found at www.haywardareahistory.org/family-programs.
For those with shorter attention spans, the museum also offers a free play arts table, or a book and toy nook.
The Hayward Area Historical Society is located on the 2nd floor at 22380 Foothill Blvd. Please enter through the parking lot side and take the elevator.
