Location: 1260 Allston Way, Strawberry Creek Park, Berkeley
Description:
On Saturday, May 16th, Berkeley’s Public Works Department is hosting its second annual Pubic Works Week Celebration to showcase its Public Works professionals during National Public Works Week (May 17-23, www.apwa.org/events/national-public-works-week-npww). Learn about the projects, people, and equipment used that keep Berkeley’s infrastructure safe, and the many resources Public Works offer.
You can come climb into the driver seat one of the City’s heavy work vehicles and try on City staff safety equipment to imagine a day on the job. Explore the rear and side loaders that pick up your waste. See inside a storm drain using a CCTV truck camera or how a Vactor truck sucks up sludge. There will be plenty of City-owned fire trucks, tractors, and excavators to inspect up close. You can ask City staff questions on their day-to-day work and career stories, or take a tour of Strawberry Creek Park’s culvert hosted by City staff (bring your rain boots). Crafts for kids, DJ-played music, and Food Trucks will be available.
