Celebrate and learn about how Berkeley builds, fixes, and cleans the community at the Public Works Week event.
Kids, their parents, or just fans of trucks and large vehicles can attend a Saturday celebration showcasing the work of those who build, fix, or maintain Berkeley’s streets, sewers, and parks.
Explore the rear and side loaders that picks up the waste or compost. See inside a storm drain using a closed-circuit camera. Learn how a Vactor truck sucks up sludge. You’ll also be able to inspect city-owned fire trucks, tractors, and excavators.
You can ask City staff about their day-to-day work and careers. Take a staff-led tour of Strawberry Creek Park’s culvert. They’ll also have crafts for kids and music curated by an on-site DJ.
At this new event combining our Public Works staff, their equipment, and some of their key projects, you’ll learn about the resources the City offers and the work it takes to strengthen and maintain the City’s infrastructure.
