Spotlight on East Bay German International School (EBGIS)

Thank you to East Bay German International School, EBGIS, for sponsoring 510families.com.

The East Bay German International School (EBGIS) offers exceptional bilingual preschool through high school programs at its centrally located Emeryville campus. Its integrated curriculum features project-based learning and an international perspective. Small class sizes allow EBGIS teachers to nurture and support each student based on their unique needs.

Join EBGIS in Early Childhood or Elementary School

No prior knowledge of German is needed for admission to the EBGIS Preschool or Kindergarten. In fact, the majority of EBGIS families do not speak German at home; these families choose EBGIS for its unparalleled education and to give their children the gift of multilingualism. In the Early Childhood Program, EBGIS’ highly trained international faculty uses early immersion principles to expand children’s communicative competencies in both German and English.

For students entering EBGIS in the early grades, the Accelerated German Studies (AGS) Program offers tailored sessions with bilingual faculty, allowing new students to integrate quickly and successfully into the bilingual academic program. Older students joining EBGIS with some knowledge of German receive individualized language support as well.

Advanced Science Curriculum Starts Early

EBGIS students learn STEAM topics through developmentally appropriate, interdisciplinary studies starting in early childhood. Advanced subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics are introduced as early as the fifth grade, and AP and/or IB courses in mathematics and the sciences are available to all EBGIS high schoolers.

Learning and Celebrating with Music

Music is integral to the EBGIS curriculum at all levels. Guided by the school’s professional music faculty, students learn formal music theory and notation while experiencing music from a diversity of traditions and styles. EBGIS students also express themselves through original music composition and performances.

Candidate School* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

The IB is an academically rigorous, internationally oriented approach respected by universities the world over. EBGIS high school students complete a bilingual IB curriculum demonstrating their ability to take on college-level coursework in two languages and meeting admissions requirements for universities in the US, Germany, and around the world.

A Spacious Emeryville Campus

EBGIS’s spacious and centrally located Emeryville campus features large classrooms, dedicated spaces for music, art, and science, two bilingual libraries, a newly-renovated auditorium, athletic fields, and ample indoor and outdoor play spaces. The school’s commitment to health and the environment can be seen in its campus sustainability practices, as well as its eco-literacy curriculum and extracurricular activities.
