Starting in the coming school year, EBGIS’ restructured international high school program will be open to all students regardless of German-language ability. The East Bay International High School (EBIHS) at EBGIS will offer multiple language tracks with advanced language and literature courses in German, French, and Spanish, while all other instruction will take place in English. Graduates will receive the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Developed in Switzerland, the IB is an academically rigorous, internationally oriented approach often referred to as the gold standard in high school education. IB graduates are highly regarded by top university admissions offices in the United States and around the world.

Younger students may enroll in the EBGIS Preschool and Kindergarten without prior knowledge of German. The school’s highly trained international faculty uses early immersion techniques to teach students German while continuing to expand their communicative abilities in English. By the time they reach the first grade, EBGIS students are well prepared for classroom learning in both German and English. For students entering EBGIS in the early grades, the Accelerated German Studies (AGS) Program offers tailored sessions with bilingual faculty, allowing new students to integrate quickly and successfully into the bilingual academic program.

EBGIS offers unparalleled academics and individualized support to each student. Its integrated curriculum features project-based learning and an international perspective, while small class sizes allow EBGIS teachers to nurture and support each student based on their unique needs. EBGIS students learn STEAM topics in a developmentally appropriate, hands-on manner starting in early childhood. Advanced subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics are introduced as early as the fifth grade, while AP and IB courses are available to all EBGIS high schoolers.

Learning and Celebrating with Music

Music is integral to the EBGIS curriculum at all levels. Guided by the school’s professional music faculty, students learn formal music theory and notation while experiencing music from a diversity of traditions and styles. EBGIS students also express themselves through original music composition and performances.

EBGIS’s commitment to health and the environment can be seen in its campus sustainability practices, as well as its eco-literacy curriculum and extracurricular activities.
