About Park Day School in Oakland
Park Day School provides a strong academic foundation where students love learning and develop intrinsic motivation. Considering other perspectives — the foundation of social justice — weaves through the curriculum and helps students hone empathy, compassion, and a sense of community. Hear from Head of School, Angela Taylor, as she describes the school’s Progressive Ed program below.
Student Projects With Impact
Student projects are cross-disciplinary involving field trips to explore, research, or interview experts. These projects often culminate in a collaborative student presentation or a wider-reaching benefit to the larger community. Examples of student projects include one where third-grade students helped the Black-crowned Night-Heron become the Official Bird of Oakland and another project where students partnered with Sogorea Te Land Trust to create a community art installation as part of their efforts to uncover and celebrate underrepresented histories in Oakland.
