This post is sponsored by Alameda Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, who has served families in the Bay Area since 1971. They can treat all kids, including those with special needs. They offer a co-pay free “Baby’s First Smile” visit for new patients under 24 months old. Offer includes an exam, cleaning, and fluoride at no charge.
August 22 & February 28 are National Tooth Fairy Days
Did you know that Tooth Fairy Day is celebrated twice a year because kids should visit the dentist every 6 months?
Fun fact: The Alameda Pediatric Dentistry offices have secret fairy doors. This gives the tooth fairies a faster commute so they can come in at night and collect any teeth left at the office. Come visit, and see if you can find a door! (Click here to learn more about the Tooth Fairy!)
Read on to learn what the team at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry wants you to know about taking care of teeth.
As you prepare for the start of a new school year, don’t forget to schedule your kids for a back-to-school dental exam. Did you know that tooth decay is the most prevalent disease in children? Prevention and early detection can help avoid pain, trouble eating, difficulty speaking, and school absences.
5 Back-to-School Teeth Tips from Alameda Pediatric Dentistry:
1. Add the Dentist’s Number to Your Phone
Alameda Pediatric Dentistry is on-call for emergencies! Save the phone number now to save time later: (510) 521-5437. Accidents can happen in sports, gym class, or on the school bus. In case of a dental emergency, make sure your child’s teachers and coaches know to call the pediatric dentist — there is usually a spot for this number on the emergency forms we fill out each year.
2. Schedule a Dental Check-Up
Look at the school calendar and plan out two dental exams. Routine dental exams every six months can help monitor oral health, and identify and treat issues early on before they progress. Keep your child’s smile happy and healthy.
3. Pack a Low-Sugar Lunch
Fuel your kids with the nutrients they need to stay focused in school, with foods that are also healthy for teeth! A great option is a sandwich on whole grain bread, with lettuce, tomato, and cheese, with veggies or apple slices on the side. When it comes to drinks, water is the best.
4. Replace the Toothbrushes
Buy new toothbrushes every three months or after an illness or infection. Look for soft-bristled toothbrushes with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Make sure kids brush for 2 minutes, twice a day, and floss before bedtime.
5. Consider a Mouthguard For Athletes
Mouthguards fit snugly over teeth to help protect against injuries to the teeth, mouth, and jaw joints. It is recommended to get a new mouthguard every season or after a growth spurt. When my son started playing flag football, he took great pride in wearing his mouthguard, like the pros he saw on TV!
“My kids look forward to their checkups and appointments at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry, and honestly, I know why. They are so well taken care of here. So comfortable, punctual, clean, kind, and accommodating.” ~ Ali L.
