A few weeks ago, Team {510} met up at Dandelion Post, a small shop in Oakland with classroom space in the back. We had signed up for a punch needle workshop, hosted by gather and taught by a local punch needle artist.

Founded in 2014 by husband and wife team, Christian and Daisy McClellan, gather workshop hosts a wide variety of classes such as calligraphy, macrame, embroidery, tarot, and candle making. They strive to foster an engaging experience that provides a meaningful connection to our amazing community of local craftsmen and women.

The class included all the supplies we needed to create our first punch needle tapestry: colorful yarn, the punch needle itself, a sharp yarn-cutting tool, a frame, and a canvas. The workshop also included mimosas and light snacks.
After a short tutorial, we had about an hour to work on our projects. Women were chatting and working while our instructor circulated to support anyone who needed help.

A wall mural on an outdoor patio space was the perfect place to take a break or pose with our artwork for a photo.
None of us finished our projects, but we all left excited to continue them at home. Our workshop fees covered a canvas bag in which we kept our materials and WIPs (Works In Progress, for non-crafters). Over the next two weeks, we sent each other photos to share our updates.
When can you do this?Â
