{510} Families’ Big Birthday Bash (photos)

Thanks to Icarian Photography for capturing our special event with these beautiful images.

Roughly 50 toddlers (they’re so hard to count!) and their big people joined us at the Junior Center of Art & Science in Oakland at the end of March to celebrate the 7th anniversary of 510Families.com. Happy birthday to us!

Whitney Moss (L) and Heather Flett (R) launched 510Families.com 7 years ago

It was so much fun exploring the Lake Merritt-adjacent art and science center, who graciously opened their doors for us; set up an art project; invited us to investigate their reptiles; and, let us explore every nook, cranny, and toy in the imaginative play room.

You can host your own painting party at the Junior Center – they do classes, camps and birthday parties.
Jake’s Discovery Garden playroom is for 2 to 5 year old visitors and their adult caregivers. Cost: $2 per child.

We had entertainment from local magician Mike Della Penna. Book this guy! He was so amazing with the little ones and wowed the parents as well.

Berkeley-based Peaceable Kingdom set up a game and activity center.

Heather Ware from Look At You! facepainting made serious magic on our guests’ faces.

See more examples of Heather’s facepainting work on her Facebook page.

And, we encouraged all the guests to connect with each other on mom.life, the app for modern moms. They gave away some funny tshirts, too! We posted door prizes on our own mom.life account. (Look! Cecy won a Habit Burger gift card!)

And at the end of the party, we rocked out with Stephanie Pepitone, local kids musician.

Catch Stephanie at Rockin’ Kids Singalong on Fridays at La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley.

Our snacks came courtesy of Revolution Foods and Whole Foods.

Revolution Foods served pancakes with fruit toppings, made easy with their pour-ready batter, “Breakfast Hero”.
Whole Foods brought delicious mini-cupcakes. (So we birthday girls each ate three.)

We are so grateful to everyone who keeps reading, who submits events to our calendar, and who works with us to keep this online community insanely useful for East Bay parents. That is our mission.

P.S. We sent our guests home with a goody bag, because, after all, it was a birthday party!
