Thanksgiving Camps aka “Ack! I need childcare?”

Whether your child’s school is closed all week or just Wednesday through Friday, we figured you might be looking for a little support next week. I have been known to splurge on a last minute winter camp when I realized how many hours of unplanned awake time we’d all be spending together. Don’t judge.

Here are some ideas:

1- Sarah’s Science Thanksgiving Camp in Oakland. For ages 5-11 as campers, and 11-14 as CITs, this environmental science program is offered Monday through Wednesday, with day rates available if you don’t need all three days. Hours: 8:30 to 5:30. Location: Lake Merritt United Methodist Church. Cost: $95/day. Details and registration >

2- Glitter and Razz 2-day Gratitude Camp. Kids will create a play in two days and perform it for parents at the 4 pm pick up on Tuesday from the College Avenue location. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm with aftercare available on Monday only. Cost is $160 per kid or $300 for two siblings. Ages 4 to 10. Details and registration >

3- Head over Heels gymnastics camp in Emeryville. For ages 4-11, daily camp will be offered from 9 to 4 for $70 per day on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Details and registration >

4- Hire a sitter for a short-term nanny share. Band together with another family and hire one sitter to watch your child and a friend. Try our sponsor, UrbanSitter, a site that will list sitters based on availability after you enter the dates for which you need them. We’ve also had good luck getting our preschool teachers to take on some extra hours on school holidays.
